Buy Marriott Bonvoy Points With 55% Bonus: Worth It From India?
Updated as of 30 Sep 2026. The sale runs until 23 November 2026, but Marriott warns the bonus may be reduced before then. We’ll mark this post Deal Ended when it closes.
Marriott Bonvoy is selling points with up to a 55% bonus, the biggest in years, and has raised the yearly purchase limit to 200,000 points (before bonus). Sounds like a steal. Here’s what it actually costs in rupees, which card to pay with, and when it’s worth it.
TL;DR
- 💸 At 55%, $1,000 buys 124,000 points, about ₹0.77–0.80 a point after forex. We value Bonvoy points at ₹0.60–0.80, so for hoarding this is break-even at best.
- 🎯 Check your own bonus. Offers are targeted, and some members see 20–50% instead of 55%.
- 🧾 Sold through Points.com, not Marriott. It codes as a business service (MCC 7399), so hotel and travel bonus categories won’t apply.
- 💳 Best card: Axis Magnus for Burgundy in a month you’ve already crossed ₹1.5 lakh (35 EDGE points per ₹200). That brings the net cost to about ₹0.68 a point.
- ✅ Worth it only to top up for a specific stay where you’ll get ₹1+ a point. Otherwise, skip.

The real cost in rupees
| Pay with | You’re billed (for $1,000) | Card rewards (approx.) | Net cost per point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Axis Magnus for Burgundy, month already above ₹1.5 lakh | ₹98,160 (2% + GST) | ≈ 17,200 EDGE → ≈ 13,700 airline miles at 5:4 (≈ ₹13,700) | ≈ ₹0.68 |
| Axis Magnus for Burgundy, normal month | ₹98,160 | ≈ 5,900 EDGE → ≈ 4,700 miles (≈ ₹4,700) | ≈ ₹0.75 |
| HDFC Infinia / Diners Black | ₹98,160 (2% + GST) | ≈ 3,270 reward points (≈ ₹3,270 via SmartBuy) | ≈ ₹0.77 |
| Axis Atlas | ₹99,860 (3.5% + GST) | ≈ 2,000 EDGE Miles, base rate only (no travel bonus) | ≈ ₹0.77 |
| IDFC FIRST (zero forex) | ₹95,900 | Card’s base rewards | ≈ ₹0.77 |
Worth it or not?
| You are… | What to do |
|---|---|
| A few thousand points short of a specific award night (for example a 5-night stay, where the 5th night is free on points) | ✅ Buy just the gap, ideally in a Magnus for Burgundy month above ₹1.5 lakh |
| Eyeing a peak-date luxury stay where points get you ₹1+ each | ✅ Reasonable at ≈ ₹0.68–0.77 a point. Check award availability first |
| Thinking “cheap points, I’ll use them someday” | ❌ Skip. Marriott uses dynamic pricing, so the same room can cost more points next year |
| Wanting airline miles | ❌ Skip. Bonvoy converts to most airlines at 3:1, which makes these miles very expensive |
The fine print
- The bonus applies on purchases of 2,000+ points. Buying or gifting both count.
- The yearly limit is 200,000 points before bonus (up from 150,000) for this sale.
- New members usually have to wait 30 days after joining before they can buy.
- Points typically post within a few days. Purchases are non-refundable.
- Pay in USD, and don’t accept a conversion to INR at checkout (DCC).
DealUni verdict: A good sale, but not a no-brainer. It’s only worth it as a top-up for a stay you’ve already found, paid with Magnus for Burgundy in a month you’ve already crossed ₹1.5 lakh. Everyone else should skip it.
Bonus bada hai, par pehle hotel chuno, phir points kharido. (The bonus is big, but pick the hotel first, then buy the points.)
