Cleartrip Big Billion Days 2026: The Discount Cap Maths
Checked 8 Oct 2026. Cleartrip has announced its Big Billion Days travel sale for 8–18 October 2026. A sale banner is a reason to compare prices. It is not proof that your booking is cheaper.
For Indian travellers booking a family holiday, the useful question is simple: how much comes off the bill after the cap, and what comes back as fees? Here is the rupee maths.
TL;DR
- Compare the same flight, baggage and cancellation conditions on Cleartrip and the airline’s own website.
- A capped 10% discount can become only 6% on a larger booking.
- Paying by EMI for a slightly larger discount needs a separate fee calculation.
- The bank figures below are announced offers. Confirm the current eligible card, coupon, minimum spend and cap in the checkout offer terms.
What we could verify
Cleartrip’s company announcement, distributed by VMPL/ANI and carried by The Tribune, gives the dates and bank figures. Its live homepage advertises flights from ₹1,499 and up to 35% off. These are limited promotional headlines, not a fare quote for your route.
Verification limit: we did not find matching full 2026 HDFC sale terms in the public offers list during this check. We have therefore labelled these figures as announced, and have not supplied an unverified coupon or promised stacking. Older Cleartrip sale pages must not be used as this year’s terms.
Announced HDFC offers: where the caps bite
| Booking | Full payment | EMI | Announced minimum |
|---|---|---|---|
| Domestic flight | 10%, up to ₹1,800 | 10%, up to ₹2,000 | ₹10,000 |
| International flight | 10%, up to ₹6,000 | 10%, up to ₹7,000 | ₹15,000 |
| Domestic hotel | 20%, up to ₹5,000 | 20%, up to ₹6,000 | ₹5,000 |
| International hotel | 15%, up to ₹5,000 | 15%, up to ₹6,000 | ₹5,000 |
The actual savings calculation
Discount = the smaller of (eligible amount × offer rate) and the cap, provided the minimum spend and other conditions are met. The following are worked examples, not live fares or hotel quotes. “Eligible amount” means whatever the checkout terms define; convenience fees and excluded extras are additional.
| Example eligible amount | Calculation: full payment | After discount, before extra fees | Effective saving |
|---|---|---|---|
| ₹15,000 domestic flight | min(₹1,500, ₹1,800) = ₹1,500 | ₹13,500 | 10% |
| ₹30,000 domestic flight | min(₹3,000, ₹1,800) = ₹1,800 | ₹28,200 | 6% |
| ₹80,000 international flight | min(₹8,000, ₹6,000) = ₹6,000 | ₹74,000 | 7.5% |
| ₹20,000 domestic hotel | min(₹4,000, ₹5,000) = ₹4,000 | ₹16,000 | 20% |
Suppose the same domestic itinerary costs ₹27,500 directly with the airline, including the same baggage. Cleartrip’s ₹30,000 example becomes ₹28,200 after discount. The direct fare is already ₹700 cheaper, before any additional Cleartrip fee. A successful coupon can still leave you paying more.
EMI: calculate the extra discount first
At ₹30,000, the announced domestic-flight EMI cap gives ₹2,000 off instead of ₹1,800: only ₹200 extra. If an EMI plan hypothetically charges a ₹199 processing fee plus 18% GST, that costs ₹234.82. You are ₹34.82 worse off even before interest or any lost rewards. This fee is an illustration, not a claim about a particular HDFC EMI plan.
Read the actual EMI schedule. Include processing fees, taxes, interest net of any subsidy, foreclosure charges if relevant, and reward eligibility. “No cost” should still be checked against the complete payment schedule.
Advantages
- An eligible bank discount can lower a trip you already intended to book.
- The cap maths makes a large family booking easier to compare.
- There may be useful limited inventory for flexible travellers.
Disadvantages and checks before paying
- Advertised starting fares do not guarantee seats for your dates or passengers.
- Compare baggage, seats, meals, refund rules and all fees on equal terms.
- Do not assume an airline sale, bank offer and flash promotion combine.
- For hotels, compare the same room, occupancy, meals and cancellation policy; confirm loyalty benefits separately.
- A booking deadline is not a travel deadline. Check the specific offer’s permitted travel dates.
DealUni’s take
Open both final-price screens before paying. Choose the booking that gives you the better complete trip at the lower total cost. The discount percentage is useful only after that comparison.
