Leela Palace New Delhi Review: Grand Hotel, No Titanium Upgrade
๐ Updated as of 3 Oct 2026. We stayed one night, 1โ2 October 2026, and paid for the room ourselves.
The Leela Palace in Chanakyapuri is one of Delhi’s grandest hotels, and we’ve had great stays at other Leela properties. This time we booked through the GHA DISCOVERY app as Titanium members, paid partly with DISCOVERY Dollars, and expected the usual Leela warmth. The hotel was beautiful. The status recognition wasn’t. Here’s the full picture.

The booking and what we paid
| Room | Royal Premier Room, 3 adults |
| Booked via | GHA DISCOVERY app, “GHA member rate” |
| Room rate | โน30,315 + โน5,457 taxes = โน35,772 |
| Paid with DISCOVERY Dollars | D$138 (โน13,217) |
| Paid by card | โน22,554 |
| Our status | GHA DISCOVERY Titanium |
Two days before arrival, the hotel emailed us a paid upgrade offer: the Royal Club Room for โน5,000 + 18% GST a night, including Royal Club Lounge access (breakfast, high tea, evening cocktails), BMW airport transfers both ways and butler service. We didn’t take it, expecting our Titanium status to count for something on arrival.
The room

- Classic palace style: inlaid wooden furniture, a big writing desk, rich carpets and a wooden key card that feels special.
- Bathroom: marble throughout, a deep soaking tub, a separate glass shower and double vanities. Easily the best part of the room.
- Dressing area with a luggage bench, handy for three adults.
- The view: our window looked straight onto a construction site with hoardings and cranes. Ask for a garden-facing room when you check in.

The welcome
This is where the Leela shines. In the room we found a tray of four mini desserts under a glass dome (a pecan opera slice, a laddoo, a red velvet cupcake and a kesar peda), flourless cookies from the hotel’s Aujasya wellness range, fresh fruit and bottled water.

The miss: GHA Titanium, no upgrade
We received breakfast (served at The Qube, overlooking the garden) and late checkout. But no room upgrade, even though higher categories were clearly available that day. When we asked at the front desk, we were told we had booked a discounted rate, and the only Titanium benefit on it was the 10% member discount.
That doesn’t match GHA’s own description. GHA DISCOVERY lists room upgrades, early check-in, late checkout and breakfast for Titanium members who book direct, and the GHA app is a direct channel. Upgrades are always subject to availability, but here there was availability.
| Leela hotel (our stays) | Upgrade | Club lounge |
|---|---|---|
| The Leela Ambience Convention Hotel, Delhi (Shahdara) | โ Both stays, without asking | โ Yes |
| The Leela Palace Udaipur | โ Without asking | โ Yes |
| The Leela Palace New Delhi | โ No, even after asking | โ No |
How to get your status honoured
- Book direct on the GHA app or theleela.com, on a rate that clearly shows member benefits.
- Email the hotel 2โ3 days before arrival with your GHA number, and politely ask about an upgrade as a Titanium member.
- If the upgrade is refused with rooms available, ask the front office manager, then raise it with GHA DISCOVERY support after your stay.
- If the lounge matters to you, the pre-arrival Royal Club offer (โน5,900 with GST) includes airport transfers the hotel values at โน17,700. For a family flying into Delhi, that can be worth paying for.

Beyond the hotel: shopping in Delhi
Ambience Mall, Vasant Kunj
For brands and air-conditioning, Ambience Mall in Vasant Kunj has H&M, True Religion and many other international labels, plus a food court and restaurants. It’s an easy cab ride from Chanakyapuri. Pay with a card that earns well on shopping, or check your bank’s mall offers before you go.

Sarojini Nagar Market: the budget wardrobe refresh
If you want to update your everyday wardrobe without hammering your wallet, Sarojini Nagar is the place. Most things cost โน50โ350: jeans, tops, shirts, T-shirts, track pants, salwar kameez, shoes and juttis. (No photos from us: it was packed, and my wife was far too busy shopping.)
- Bargain. The first price is a starting point. Start at about half and settle in between.
- Go early on a weekday. Weekends are packed.
- Check quality before you pay. Look at stitching, zips and sizes; returns aren’t really a thing.
- Carry small cash and UPI. Most stalls take UPI, but cash helps when bargaining.
- Take the metro. Sarojini Nagar station on the Pink Line is a short walk away, and parking is a pain.
Pros and cons
| ๐ Loved | ๐ Didn’t love |
|---|---|
| Grand palace-style building and garden | No Titanium upgrade, even with rooms available |
| Marble bathroom with tub and double vanity | Construction-site view from our room |
| Thoughtful welcome desserts and cookies | Front desk said the 10% discount was our only status benefit |
| Breakfast and late checkout honoured | Inconsistent with other Leela hotels we’ve stayed at |
DealUni verdict
The Leela Palace New Delhi is a beautiful hotel with excellent rooms and lovely touches. But if you’re booking on the strength of your GHA status, don’t expect an upgrade here; ask in advance, or take the paid Royal Club offer if the lounge and transfers matter to you. Using DISCOVERY Dollars to cut over a third of the bill made the stay good value for us. For a better status experience in Delhi, the Leela Ambience Convention Hotel treated us better both times.
Mehel shaandaar, par status ki kadar thodi kam. (A magnificent palace, but a little less respect for status.)
We paid for this stay ourselves; no hotel or brand was involved in this review. Booking details from our GHA DISCOVERY confirmation; Royal Club offer from the hotel’s pre-arrival email (29 Sep 2026). Titanium benefits as listed on GHA DISCOVERY’s official site. Shopping prices are what we saw in October 2026 and vary by stall.
