Turkish Airlines has put Miles&Smiles miles on sale with up to a 100% bonus. “Buy one, get one free” sounds like the deal of the year, and the group chats have already declared it “RARE!!!” with at least three exclamation marks.
So let’s do what we always do: check the fine print, turn dollars into rupees, and ask the only question that matters: do you have a flight to spend these miles on?
⚡ TL;DR
- 🎯 The 100% bonus only kicks in if you buy 250,001 miles or more in one go. That’s about ₹7.4 lakh on your card.
- 💸 At 100%, miles cost 1.5 US cents each, about ₹1.48 including forex markup. Our value for Turkish miles is ₹0.75–1.00. Buying to hoard is a loss.
- 💳 Bonus tip: this is airline spend. Turkish sells miles directly (not through Points.com), so the charge should code as an airline purchase. Pay with the right card and you claw back up to ~15%.
- 🔁 Not rare. Turkish ran a 100% bonus in December 2025 with a much easier threshold (100,001 miles), and in April 2024 too.
- ✈️ Star Alliance advantage? Yes, on paper. Fixed zone-based prices on 25 airlines, including Air India’s nonstops. In practice, finding partner award seats is the hard part.
- ✅ Worth it only if you have a specific, confirmed business class trip for 2–4 people and no card points to transfer. Otherwise, skip.

- 🧮 One transaction only. The bonus is worked out per purchase. Two buys of 150,000 each get 50%, not 100%.
- 📆 Bonus arrives within 7 days of the campaign ending, so by about 22 Oct 2026. The purchased miles show up straight away.
- 🚫 No status miles. Bought and bonus miles don’t count towards Elite status.
- 🔒 Non-refundable, and capped at 500,000 bought miles per member per calendar year.
- 👥 Open to all Miles&Smiles members. Buy by logging in to your account (website or app) → Miles Transactions.
💳 Pay With the Right Card: It Codes as Airline Spend
Most airlines sell miles through Points.com, which your bank sees as a random online merchant, so it earns only base points or nothing extra. Turkish is different: it sells miles itself, on turkishairlines.com. The charge comes from Turkish Airlines, so it should code as an airline purchase. That opens up travel-category earn and makes it a big spend for your milestones.

Does this change our verdict? A little. Even at ≈ ₹1.25 a mile with Magnus for Burgundy, you’re still paying more than the ₹0.75–1.00 we value Turkish miles at. It makes a planned family business trip cheaper, but it still doesn’t make hoarding smart.
🔁 Is 100% Really “Rare”?
No. Turkish sells miles with big bonuses roughly once a year:

The price per mile at 100% is the same 1.5¢ each time. What’s changed is the bar to reach it: this one needs about 2.5× the spend of December’s. If you’re not in a hurry, a friendlier version could well come around again. We can’t promise it, but Turkish’s history suggests it will.
✈️ What Can ₹1.48-a-Mile Buy? (From India)
Turkish puts India in its “Central Asia” award zone. These one-way prices come from Turkish’s official award tables. Taxes and carrier surcharges are extra.

Read that last row carefully. A ₹1.1 lakh one-way business seat to London or Frankfurt on a Star Alliance partner can beat a ₹1.5–2.5 lakh cash fare. But that only works if the seat exists, and you’ve already paid ₹7.2 lakh upfront for 500,000 miles you now have to use.

Plenty of Indian cards transfer to Miles&Smiles, and the cheapest miles are the ones you already have:

Our rule hasn’t changed: buy miles only to top up for a specific booking, never to hoard. Programmes devalue, and bought miles are cash you’ve handed over upfront. If you’re 20,000 miles short, don’t buy 250,001 because the bonus looks shiny.

Can I buy for my spouse’s account to cross 250,001 together?
The bonus is per transaction per member, so each account needs its own qualifying purchase. That’s ₹7.2 lakh each.
Is there TCS or extra tax on this purchase from India?

Do these miles count towards Turkish Elite status?
No. Purchased and bonus miles aren’t Status Miles.
