JetBlue is selling TrueBlue points with up to a 120% bonus. Buy 20,000, get 44,000. On paper that sounds like Big Billion Day. But JetBlue doesn’t fly to India, no Indian credit card transfers to TrueBlue, and JetBlue’s own flights are priced so that a point is worth roughly what you pay for it. So why are we writing about it at all?
Because there’s one situation where it can make sense for Indian travellers — booking Qatar Airways between the US and India with TrueBlue points. Let’s do the maths, and let’s be honest about who should skip it (spoiler: most of you).
TL;DR
- Best price is 1.47 US cents (₹1.41) per point, or about ₹1.44 all-in on a 2%-markup card, and only when you buy 20,000+ points.
- On JetBlue’s own flights a point is worth about 1.3 US cents (≈ ₹1.25). Buying at ₹1.44 to spend at ₹1.25 is paying ₹100 for an ₹87 voucher.
- The one use worth a look: Qatar Airways US ↔ India from 59,000 points in economy and 1,16,000 in business, one way.
- Even then, check the same seat with Qatar Avios first — Indian cards (HSBC 1:1, HDFC Infinia 2:1) can transfer there, and Finnair Avios bought in yen cost about ₹1.38.
- Not booking a specific flight this week? Skip it. TrueBlue points don’t expire, which makes hoarding tempting — but partner award prices can change any time.
The Offer, in Rupees
Prices below already include JetBlue’s 7.5% “tax recovery” charge. “All-in” adds the 2% forex markup plus 18% GST that an HDFC Infinia or Axis Magnus for Burgundy charges (≈ 2.4%).
Max out the promo (2,00,000 + 2,40,000 bonus = 4,40,000 points) and you’re looking at about $6,450 ≈ ₹6.18 lakh before card charges. That’s a lot of rupees for points that are mainly useful on an airline that doesn’t come to India.

The One Trick Worth Knowing: Qatar Airways With TrueBlue
JetBlue partners with Qatar Airways, so TrueBlue points can book Qatar flights — including from the US to India via Doha. Typical one-way prices:
Taxes and carrier fees are extra. Qatar award seats booked through partners are limited, so find the seat first, then buy — never the other way round.

Where TrueBlue Points Are a Bad Deal
Award prices track cash fares, so a point is worth about 1.3 US cents (≈ ₹1.25). Buy at ₹1.44, spend at ₹1.25 — that’s a guaranteed loss of about 13%. Just pay cash.
Yes, TrueBlue points now book United — but the rates are poor. One New York–Los Angeles economy example priced at 35,000 points for a $124 fare: about 0.35 US cents a point. That’s buying tomatoes at ₹100 a kilo and selling them at ₹25.
TrueBlue points don’t expire — but partner prices can change without notice, and we saw a string of devaluations across programs in 2026 alone. Points on a shelf only lose value. Buy the top-up for a trip you’ve found, not a stockpile.
If You Do Buy: Your Real Cost After Card Rewards
This is a US-dollar charge, so your card adds a forex markup but also pays you points back. The sticker price (₹1.41 per point at the 120% tier, before markup) isn’t what you actually pay. Here’s the net effective cost after both, valuing each card point or mile you earn at ₹1:
Why Magnus for Burgundy wins only sometimes: it earns 35 EDGE points per ₹200 (about 14 miles per ₹100 at 5:4) only on the part of your monthly spend above ₹1.5 lakh. Below that line it’s the ordinary 12 EDGE per ₹200 and it’s basically tied with HSBC Premier and Infinia. So if you’re buying ₹50,000 of points and you’ve already spent ₹1.2 lakh this month, only ₹20,000 of the purchase gets the good rate. Time the buy for late in your statement month.
check your card’s exclusion list before you buy. Banks change which merchant categories earn points, and a purchase that earns zero turns the “net” column back into the “charged” column. HSBC Premier’s zero-forex promo ended on 15 Sep 2026, so it’s back to 0.99% + GST.

“But JetBlue Is Best for Etihad!” — Let’s Check
This one’s all over Telegram groups, so here’s the honest version. Yes, you can book Etihad with TrueBlue points (the partnership has been live since 2024). A sample price: Abu Dhabi–London at about 69,000 points in business or 39,000 in economy, which is roughly ₹99,000 / ₹56,000 at ₹1.44 a point, or about ₹86,000 / ₹49,000 at the best-case Magnus net cost.
Now the parts the forwards leave out:
Etihad tends to release business award space to JetBlue only close to departure (roughly the last 30 days), and US-origin business seats are close to non-existent. You can’t plan a family holiday around a seat that may or may not appear three weeks out.
A 2024 TrueBlue sale priced US–India Etihad economy at 39,900 points, which works out to about 0.74¢ a point. You’d be buying points at 1.47¢ to spend them at half that. That’s paying ₹2 for ₹1.
HSBC (1:1), Axis Atlas (1:2), Axis Magnus for Burgundy (5:4) and HDFC Infinia (2:1) all transfer to Etihad Guest. Those are points you’ve already earned from normal spending, with no dollar charge and no forex markup.
JetBlue is a useful backup when a last-minute Etihad business seat shows up and your Etihad Guest balance is short. It isn’t the best way for most Indian readers to book Etihad. That’s still a direct transfer from your Indian card.
Should You Buy?
FAQ
A niche Qatar tool, not a deal for most Indians
At ₹1.44 a point, TrueBlue only earns its keep on Qatar Airways awards between the US and India — and only after you’ve checked that the same seat isn’t cheaper in Avios, which Indian cards can reach directly. For everyone else, this 120% bonus is a bonus on something you don’t need. Keep the rupees; there’ll be another “biggest sale ever” before Diwali lights come down.
