Aeroplan 90% Bonus: Buy Points From ₹1.14 With Axis Magnus

Updated as of 15 Oct 2026. Ends 29 Oct 2026. Rupee figures use CA$1 = ₹66.9 (15 Oct 2026), plus a 2% forex markup and 18% GST on that markup. We value Aeroplan points at about ₹1.30 each. Bonuses are targeted, so log in to Aeroplan to see yours.

Last week Aeroplan sold points at up to 30% off, and we told you to skip it at ₹1.83 a point. Now it’s back with up to a 90% bonus, and the maths is very different. At the top tier a point costs about ₹1.35. Pay with an Axis Magnus for Burgundy card in a month when you’ve already crossed ₹1.5 lakh of spend, and the earn-back on your card brings it to about ₹1.14. That’s below what we think Aeroplan points are worth.

Aeroplan buy points page: 50% bonus from 5,000, 75% from 30,000, 90% from 80,000 points; 80,000 + 72,000 bonus for CA$3,000; offer ends 29 October 2026

Only the 90% tier is interesting. At 50% or 75% you pay ₹1.47–1.71 a point, more than the points are worth, so skip those.

How Axis Magnus for Burgundy cuts the price

Magnus for Burgundy earns 12 EDGE Reward Points per ₹200 (6 per ₹100). On spends above ₹1.5 lakh in a month, the rate jumps to 35 per ₹200 (17.5 per ₹100). EDGE points move to Aeroplan at 5:4. Buying Aeroplan points is a foreign-currency purchase through Points.com, so it isn’t travel spend and earns the normal rate. That still works, because the extra 35-per-₹200 rate applies to normal spends.

Here’s the top-tier purchase (80,000 + 72,000 = 152,000 points for ₹2,05,437) paid three ways on Magnus for Burgundy:

Earn rates from Axis Bank’s Magnus for Burgundy terms; Aeroplan ratio from DealUni’s transfer data, Oct 2026. Axis charges ₹199 + GST per transfer, and transfers count towards your yearly transfer cap.

So the timing matters. Make the purchase after your other big spends for the month have gone through, and the whole ₹2 lakh earns at the top rate. The regular Magnus card earns at the same rates but transfers at 5:2, so the earn-back is worth only half as much in Aeroplan points.

Two checks before you count on it. Axis excludes some merchant categories from earning, so check that Points.com isn’t on your statement’s excluded list when the points post. And the EDGE points arrive only after your statement, so don’t plan an award around them this week.

When it’s worth buying

Here’s a real search. Mumbai to Budapest in business on 9 March 2027 costs 70,000 points + CA$83 (about ₹5,550) on EgyptAir via Cairo, or 70,000 + CA$135 on Air India and Lufthansa via Frankfurt. A couple flying one way needs 140,000 points. The 90% purchase alone gives 152,000. With the Magnus for Burgundy earn-back in a month you’re already past ₹1.5 lakh, you have 1,80,761, which leaves about 40,000 towards the flight home. That’s two business seats to Europe for about ₹2.05 lakh plus about ₹11,000 in taxes. Fly a nonstop under 4,000 miles instead, such as Air India’s Delhi–Frankfurt or Lufthansa’s Delhi–Munich, and business is 40,000 points each, so the same purchase covers more than three one-way seats.
