ANA Fuel Surcharge Jumps ₹4,150 Each Way: Book by 31 Oct
Updated as of 24 Oct 2026. Surcharge amounts from ANA’s international fuel surcharge page and JAL’s fuel surcharge chart and 15 Oct 2026 press release, checked 24 Oct 2026. Both are subject to Japanese government approval.
Flying to Japan on ANA or JAL? Get your ticket issued by 31 October. From 1 November, ANA’s fuel surcharge on flights from India rises by about ₹4,150 per flight, and it applies to ANA’s own mileage tickets too.
What changes on 1 November
| Ticket | Issued by 31 Oct | Issued from 1 Nov | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| ANA, trip starting in India (per flight) | ₹19,590 | ₹23,739 | +₹4,149 |
| ANA, return from India (two flights) | ₹39,180 | ₹47,478 | +₹8,298 per person |
| ANA, trip starting in Japan (Japan–India, per flight) | ¥35,800 | ¥38,500 | +¥2,700 |
| JAL, trip starting in Japan (Japan–India, per flight) | ¥38,500 for tickets issued in November and December | – | |
For a family of three on a return trip from Delhi or Mumbai, that’s about ₹25,000 more if the tickets are issued in November instead of October. The rule is the issue date, not the travel date: a ticket issued on 31 October for a flight in March still pays the old amount.
ANA miles pay it too
ANA says plainly that the fuel surcharge applies to ANA Mileage Club award tickets. So an ANA award from India now carries about ₹23,700 in surcharge per flight on top of the miles and taxes. Book through a partner programme instead and you usually avoid it:
| Booking ANA flights with… | Fuel surcharge? | Indian cards that transfer |
|---|---|---|
| ANA Mileage Club | ❌ Yes, ₹23,739 per flight from 1 Nov | Only via Marriott Bonvoy (3:1) |
| Air Canada Aeroplan | ✅ No | Axis Magnus for Burgundy (5:4), SBI Card MILES (1:1), HDFC Infinia (2:1) |
| Virgin Atlantic Flying Club | ✅ No | Amex (5:4) |
The trade-off: ANA’s own awards cost fewer miles: Tokyo–Delhi in business was 42,500 ANA miles in our search, against 75,000 on Aeroplan. But Indians can only get ANA miles from Marriott at 3:1, so those 42,500 miles cost 1,27,500 Bonvoy points (about ₹89,000 at ₹0.70 each), plus about ₹23,700 in surcharge. The Aeroplan seat is 75,000 points (about ₹97,500 at ₹1.30 each) with no surcharge. So unless you already hold ANA miles, Aeroplan is about ₹15,000 cheaper per business seat, before government taxes, which you pay either way.
