Etihad 50% off miles sale: why it fails from India
Updated as of 24 Oct 2026. Offer details from Etihad’s member-only deals page. Award prices from our own Etihad searches on 24 Oct 2026; cash fares from Google Flights the same day (one way, economy). Rupee values use DealUni’s FX sheet (US$1 = ₹94.43). Etihad miles valued at ₹0.90, the midpoint of DealUni’s Program Values sheet.
Etihad is running its “member-only deals”: up to 50% off award seats to nine cities, including Hanoi at 15,000 miles and Seychelles at 12,000 in economy. Book by 31 October and travel by 15 December. It looks like a steal. We priced it from Chennai, and for most Indian travellers it isn’t.
TL;DR
- The sale prices are from Abu Dhabi. From India you also pay the India–Abu Dhabi leg at the normal price, so Hanoi costs 30,001 miles, not 15,000.
- Taxes are about ₹23,000 one way, close to what a cash ticket costs.
- Chennai–Hanoi: skip. AirAsia sells it for about ₹23,800 in cash; the award is 30,001 miles plus ₹22,534.
- Chennai–Seychelles: only just OK. You get about ₹0.87 a mile, roughly what Etihad miles are worth anyway.
- Business isn’t on sale from India. Chennai–Hanoi showed 3,35,538 miles plus ₹98,961.
The sale prices
| To or from Abu Dhabi | Was | Now (economy) |
|---|---|---|
| Hanoi | 30,000 | 15,000 |
| Phnom Penh | 30,000 | 15,000 |
| Casablanca | 30,000 | 15,000 |
| Johannesburg | 30,000 | 18,000 |
| Seychelles | 20,000 | 12,000 |
| Nairobi | 20,000 | 12,000 |
| Seoul | 37,000 | 25,900 |
| Taipei | 37,000 | 25,900 |
| Damascus | 13,000 | 9,100 |
What it really costs from Chennai
| Chennai → Hanoi (30 Nov) | Chennai → Seychelles (2 Dec) | |
|---|---|---|
| Etihad award | 30,001 miles + ₹22,534 (was 45,000) | 27,001 miles + ₹23,694 (was 35,000) |
| Award in rupees (miles at ₹0.90) | ₹49,535 | ₹47,995 |
| Cheapest cash fare | ₹23,796 (AirAsia via Kuala Lumpur) | ₹45,799 (Qatar, 20-hour stop in Doha) |
| Full-service cash fare | ₹34,373 (Thai via Bangkok) | ₹47,215 (Etihad, same flights) |
| What each mile saves you | ₹0.39 against Thai; almost nothing against AirAsia | ₹0.87 against Etihad cash |

Why it falls apart: the Chennai–Abu Dhabi leg alone is 15,000 miles plus about ₹3,500 in taxes on our sheet. Add the sale leg and the taxes jump to about ₹22,500, so roughly ₹19,000 comes with the onward flight from Abu Dhabi. Half-price miles don’t help when the cash part is the size of a full ticket.
Where your Etihad miles come from

| HDFC Infinia and Diners Black | 2:1 |
What to do
| You are… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Flying from India to Hanoi | ❌ Pay cash. Fares via Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur beat the award |
| Flying to Seychelles with Etihad miles already in your account | ⚠️ Fine at ₹0.87 a mile, but don’t transfer points just for this |
| Already in Abu Dhabi, or adding an Abu Dhabi stopover | ✅ This is who the sale is for. Price the Abu Dhabi leg on its own |
| Hoping for cheap business | ❌ No promo business seats from India in our searches |

DealUni take: a good sale for people living in the Gulf, a poor one from India. Check the cash fare before you transfer a single point. Miles aadhe, tax poora. (Half the miles, all of the tax.)
