IndusInd Avios Card: Qatar or BA Variant, Which to Pick?
Updated as of 21 Oct 2026. Card terms from IndusInd Bank’s benefit guide and card page. Avios values use DealUni’s Program Values sheet (Qatar Avios ₹1.15, BA Avios ₹1.00; last verified 26 Sep 2026). Fees exclude 18% GST unless stated.
India has exactly one credit card that earns Avios directly: the IndusInd Bank Avios Visa Infinite. It comes in two flavours. When you apply, you pick Qatar Airways Privilege Club or British Airways Club, and every Avios you earn lands there. Same card, same fees, two very different homes for your points. Here’s which one to pick, and whether the card is worth ₹11,800 in the first place.
TL;DR
- Pick the Qatar variant. Qatar flies from more Indian cities, its Avios are worth more to us (₹1.15 vs ₹1.00), and the bank’s welcome campaigns have run on the Qatar variant.
- The card only works if you spend ₹8 lakh a year. Below that it returns about 1.7%. At ₹8 lakh the 18,000-Avios milestone lifts it to about 4.3%.
- Year one: ₹11,800 with GST gets you 20,000 Avios, worth about ₹23,000.
- Catch: 3.5% forex everywhere except the one “preferred destination” you choose, and only 1 Avios per ₹200 on utilities, insurance, education and government payments.
The card in one table
| Feature | What you get |
|---|---|
| Joining fee | ₹10,000 + GST, with 20,000 Avios (credited within 15 days of the fee) |
| Renewal fee | ₹5,000 + GST, with 5,000 Avios |
| Everyday spends (India and abroad) | 3 Avios per ₹200 |
| Qatar Airways or BA website/app | 5 Avios per ₹200 |
| In-store spends in your preferred international destination | 6 Avios per ₹200 |
| Utilities, insurance, education, government | 1 Avios per ₹200 |
| Fuel | No Avios; 1% surcharge waiver on ₹500–₹10,000 |
| Milestones | 18,000 Avios at ₹8 lakh a year, another 18,000 at ₹16 lakh (max 36,000) |
| Forex markup | 1.5% in your preferred destination, 3.5% elsewhere |
| Lounges | 2 international (Priority Pass) + 2 domestic per quarter; 2 meet-and-greets a year |
Qatar or British Airways: the two variants
The fees, earn rates, milestones and lounges are identical. The only difference is which programme receives your Avios, and you choose it at application. IndusInd’s terms don’t describe a way to switch later, so treat it as a one-time decision.
| Qatar Airways Privilege Club | British Airways Club | |
|---|---|---|
| Home airline from India | Qatar flies to Doha from over a dozen Indian cities | BA flies to London from a handful of metros |
| DealUni value per Avios | ₹1.15 | ₹1.00 |
| Best use | Qatar business class (Qsuites) to Doha, Europe and beyond | Partner awards, e.g. short oneworld flights |
| Surcharges on own flights | Moderate | Heavy on BA long-haul |
| Welcome campaigns | Qatar ran a 20,000 bonus-Avios campaign on this variant in Jan 2026 | None we’ve seen |
For most Indians, Qatar wins. You fly from your own city, the surcharges don’t eat the saving, and you can still move Avios between Privilege Club and BA Club at 1:1 when a BA-side award makes sense. Pick BA only if you already keep your Avios there and mostly fly BA or Iberia.
What the card really returns
| Spend a year | Base Avios | Milestone | Total | Value (Qatar ₹1.15) | Return |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| ₹3 lakh | 4,500 | – | 4,500 | ₹5,175 | 1.7% |
| ₹8 lakh | 12,000 | 18,000 | 30,000 | ₹34,500 | 4.3% |
| ₹16 lakh | 24,000 | 36,000 | 60,000 | ₹69,000 | 4.3% |
₹8 lakh is the line. Under it, this is a 1.7% card with a ₹5,900 renewal fee, and plenty of no-fee cashback cards beat that. At ₹8 lakh or ₹16 lakh it returns about 4.3% in Avios, which is premium-card territory for a ₹5,000 fee. Spending between ₹8 lakh and ₹16 lakh? The extra spend earns only the base 1.7% until you reach ₹16 lakh.
The renewal pays for itself: ₹5,900 with GST gets back 5,000 Avios (about ₹5,750). So from year two you’re keeping the card for the milestone, the lounges and the cheaper forex in one country.
The preferred destination trick
You choose one international destination. In-store spends there earn 6 Avios per ₹200 (about 3.45% back) and pay 1.5% forex (1.77% with GST). Net, you’re about 1.7% ahead. Everywhere else abroad it’s 3 Avios and 3.5% forex, which loses money. You can change the destination only after each card anniversary, by calling IndusInd or emailing premium care.
Pick the country you visit most: the UAE for Dubai regulars, the UK if your family is there, the US for students’ parents. Online spends in that country earn only the normal 3 Avios.
Who should get it
| You are… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Spending ₹8 lakh+ a year and flying Qatar | ✅ Get the Qatar variant, and plan to hit ₹8 lakh every card year |
| Already holding Magnus, Infinia or HSBC TravelOne | ⚠️ Those transfer to Avios already. Add this only if you’ll hit its milestone without starving your main card |
| Visiting one country often | ✅ Use it there with the 1.5% forex and 6 Avios |
| Spending under ₹5 lakh a year | ❌ Skip. A cashback card returns more |
| Loyal to BA and Iberia | Pick the BA variant |
