Quick Hits: Navi Mumbai Shift, US Arrival Form, Lufthansa ID

Mumbai: IndiGo and Air India Express Gulf flights move to Navi Mumbai

• IndiGo: 12 daily international departures move from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj airport to Navi Mumbai between February and July 2027. The routes: Bahrain, Riyadh, Dammam, Jeddah, Madinah, Kuwait, Ras Al Khaimah, Fujairah, Muscat, Dhaka and Jakarta, plus a new daily Kathmandu flight. IndiGo will announce exact dates per route later.
• Air India Express: 4 daily domestic flights start from Navi Mumbai in December 2026. Its Oman flights move in January 2027, along with planned new Kuwait flights (subject to approvals). Jeddah, Riyadh, Dammam, Doha, Muscat and Sharjah follow, with the move complete by summer 2027.
• Why: it frees space at the main Mumbai airport so Terminal 1 can be rebuilt.

Verdict: if you’ve booked an IndiGo or Air India Express Gulf flight from Mumbai for February 2027 onwards, check the departure airport on your ticket a week before you fly, and again the day before. Neither release says how existing bookings will be handled. Navi Mumbai is a long way from south and central Mumbai, so plan the ride.

Flying to the US: a new form from 3 November

• Who: every passenger on a flight into the US, including US citizens and green card holders, and including people only connecting through the US to another country.
• When: flights leaving for the US at or after 11:59pm US Eastern time on 3 November 2026 (10:29am IST on 4 November).
• What: you confirm you haven’t been in the Democratic Republic of the Congo in the 21 days before boarding. Changing planes at a Congo airport counts, even if you don’t leave the airport.
• How: your airline collects it, online or on paper, at check-in or the gate. You can’t board without it.

Verdict: for almost everyone flying India to the US, it’s one extra tick at check-in. Allow a few extra minutes, and fill it in for children and anyone you’re checking in for.

Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian: Travel ID needed to check in online

• What changes: online check-in on the websites and apps of Lufthansa, SWISS, Austrian, Brussels Airlines, Air Dolomiti, Edelweiss and Discover now needs a free Lufthansa Group Travel ID login.
• From India: from 30 November 2026 for departures from India and other regions outside Europe and North America (and from Frankfurt). Departures from Munich and Zurich start on 16 November.
• Not needed if: you check in at the airport counter or a kiosk, your ticket was issued by another airline (for example, an Air India or Air Canada ticket with a Lufthansa flight), or someone else with a Travel ID checks you in.

Verdict: create a Travel ID before your next Lufthansa Group trip, and link your Miles & More number to it. One person can check in the whole family.

Etihad Guest: now earn miles on STARLUX

Since August you could spend Etihad Guest miles on STARLUX, the Taiwanese airline. Now you can earn them too, from 25% of the distance flown on the cheapest economy fares to 250% in first. STARLUX doesn’t fly to India, but Etihad’s distance-based chart for STARLUX flights is useful for trips via Taipei:

Verdict: Taipei to Tokyo in STARLUX business for 30,000 Etihad miles (about ₹27,000 plus taxes) is a good add-on to a Japan trip. Etihad miles are an easy transfer from several Indian cards; see our Airline Partner Map.
