Quick Hits: Thai Adds 4 Chennai Flights, SIA’s 380,000-Seat Sale

Updated as of 20 Oct 2026. Thai Airways details are from THAI’s winter 2026/27 schedule announcement (2 Sep 2026) and the flight times THAI has filed. The Singapore Airlines and Scoot sale details are from the airlines’ joint media release of 13 Oct 2026.

Two airline updates this week: more Thai Airways flights from Chennai and five other Indian cities, and a huge Singapore Airlines and Scoot sale that’s mostly not for us.

Thai adds 4 more Chennai–Bangkok flights a week

From 25 Oct 2026, Thai Airways goes from 7 to 11 flights a week between Chennai and Bangkok. The daily flight stays, and four extra flights a week are added on a smaller Airbus A321neo.

Local times as filed by THAI for winter 2026/27. Schedules can change; check thaiairways.com before you book.

Both Chennai flights are still red-eyes, but the new 02:50 departure lands at 07:45, which is a better time to reach a Bangkok hotel than 05:55. One catch: THAI’s filings show the daily TG337/338 switching from a widebody A330 to a smaller A320 from 25 Oct to 30 Nov, so business class on those dates is likely to be a smaller cabin. Check the seat map before you pay for business.

It’s part of a bigger India push this winter:

Book it with Air India points: 15,000 economy, 30,000 business

Thai is in Star Alliance, so you can use Air India Maharaja Club points on these flights. Air India’s own points calculator prices Chennai–Bangkok on Star Alliance partners at:

Chennai → Bangkok, one wayMaharaja PointsPlus
Economy15,000Taxes and fees
Business30,000Taxes and fees
Source: Air India points calculator, Star Alliance partners, checked 20 Oct 2026. Air India says the figures are “tentative and subject to change”.
  • Getting the points: ICICI Emeralde Private and Times Black, SBI Card MILES and HSBC TravelOne and Premier transfer 1:1, so 30,000 card points gets you business. Axis Atlas is 1:2 (15,000 EDGE Miles for business). HDFC Infinia is 2:1, which makes it 60,000 reward points, a poor use. Full list on our Air India transfer partners page.
  • You have to call. Air India books Thai awards only through its customer care (1860 233 1407), not online, and issues one ticket per flight.
  • Seats are limited. Thai releases a few award seats per flight. The four new flights a week give you more chances.

The same flights can also be booked with Aeroplan, KrisFlyer, United and LifeMiles miles; see our Aeroplan guide. Paid tickets on Thai earn miles in Star Alliance programmes too.

Singapore Airlines and Scoot: 380,000 cheap tickets, but from Singapore

Singapore Airlines and Scoot are putting more than 380,000 discounted tickets on sale at their Time To Fly travel fair. It’s getting a lot of attention in India, but read the fine print before you get excited.

Who it helps from India:

  • Indians living in Singapore. If Scoot includes Singapore–India one-ways, it’s a good time to book trips home.
  • Trips that start in Singapore. If you’ll already be in Singapore, a sale fare from there to Australia, Europe or the US on a separate ticket can beat a through fare from India. Leave a long gap between the two tickets; the airline won’t protect a missed connection on separate bookings.
  • Everyone else: skip it. A sale from Singapore doesn’t make your Delhi or Chennai fare cheaper.

There are no KrisFlyer award discounts in this sale. For cheaper Singapore Airlines flights on miles from India, watch KrisFlyer’s monthly Spontaneous Escapes, covered in our monthly award sales post.

DealUni take: the Thai news is the useful one. Chennai gets more choice of Bangkok flights, a better arrival time, and a business seat for just 30,000 Air India points. Ignore the SIA sale unless your trip starts in Singapore.
