SAS EuroBonus Status Match for Indians: Join the Waitlist

Updated as of 7 Oct 2026. Rupee values use our FX sheet (5 Oct 2026, €1 = ₹108.11, $1 = ₹96.34).

SAS EuroBonus Gold is one of the cheapest ways for an Indian traveller to get SkyTeam Elite Plus, which means lounges with a guest, SkyPriority and extra bags on Air France, KLM and Virgin Atlantic. In June SAS ran a paid status match just for Indian residents. That window has closed, but a new one looks likely. Here’s what the last match offered, what Gold is worth from India, and how to be first in line next time. And since 1 Oct, SAS flies nonstop between Mumbai and Copenhagen again, so the status now works on SAS’s own flight from India too.

SAS is back in Mumbai

After 17 years away, and a false start in June when the first flight turned back mid-air because an Indian approval hadn’t come through, SAS launched its Copenhagen–Mumbai route on 1 Oct 2026.

For Mumbai flyers this changes the maths. Gold now gets you the lounge, fast track, extra bags and a guaranteed seat on SAS’s own flight, and SAS flights earn EuroBonus Level points directly.

Is the SAS status match open now?

No. The official SAS status match page only lets you register interest in a future match, and India is on its list of eligible countries. Reports on 6 Oct say SAS is preparing to accept elites from most non-SkyTeam airlines, but nothing is live yet. Register on the waitlist now; it’s free and you need to be a EuroBonus member (also free) first.

SAS joined SkyTeam on 1 Sep 2024, so Gold works on every SkyTeam airline. As Elite Plus you can use SkyTeam lounges with one guest on any international SkyTeam flight, even in economy. From India that means SAS from Mumbai, Air France and KLM to Europe, and Virgin Atlantic to London, plus SkyTeam connections onwards.

Who it’s worth it for

You…Worth it?
Fly SAS, Air France, KLM or Virgin Atlantic in economy two or more times in the next two yearsYes. Lounge with a guest, extra bags and priority lanes for under ₹9,000
Mostly fly Air India, IndiGo, Lufthansa or EmiratesNo. EuroBonus status does nothing on Star Alliance or non-SkyTeam flights
Already have Gold or Platinum with Flying BlueNo need
Want to keep the status after it runs outPossible but hard. Gold needs 45,000 Level points or 45 SAS flights in 12 months; SAS’s Mumbai flights now help

SAS vs Flying Blue: Air France-KLM’s own paid match now includes Indian members and Air India elites, at $99–399 (₹9,500–38,400) for 12 months. SAS’s June match gave Elite Plus for about €79 (₹8,500) and for up to two years, so it was the better deal. Status match details for Flying Blue are on flyingblue.com.

Can you keep it?

Air France flights credited to EuroBonus earn Level points based on distance and fare class. Delhi–Paris is about 4,080 miles each way.

Air France fareLevel points, Delhi–Paris return
Cheapest economy (R, V, G, X)About 1,630
Flexible economy (Y, B, M)About 8,160
Business saver (Z)About 10,200
Full-fare business (J, C)About 16,320
Our calculation from SAS’s Air France earning table.

On Air France alone, keeping Gold takes three full-fare business returns, or more than 27 cheap economy ones. SAS’s own Mumbai flights now count too, both for Level points and towards the 45-flight route, and a return to the US via Copenhagen is four flights. Even so, for most Indian travellers the match is a two-year bonus, not a status you’ll hold forever.

How to be ready for the next match

  1. Join EuroBonus for free.
  2. Register interest on sas.statusmatch.com.
  3. Keep a screenshot of your current airline status card and its expiry date, plus your passport or driving licence.
  4. Time it: the match runs from the day you’re approved, so apply a few months before your next SAS, Air France or KLM trip, not just after one.
