Wyndham Rewards Guide for Indians: Free Status, Cheap Stays
📅 Updated as of 4 Oct 2026. Award prices are live app searches for January 2027 nights. Rupee values use AED ₹26.24, MYR ₹23.58, EUR ₹108.11, VND ₹0.00372 and USD ₹96.34 (DealUni FX sheet, 4 Oct 2026).
What changed (4 Oct 2026, second update): hotel count updated (about 9,200; 8,400 bookable on points); the status match is one-time; Platinum car upgrades are US/Canada only; the Mastercard offer is confirmed for 2025, check for 2026; corrected the points-sale bonus (80% public); added award cancellation rules, the 4X points offer and the Visa answer.
Wyndham is the hotel programme nobody brags about. No Maldives overwater villas, no fancy lounges, mostly Ramadas and Days Inns. But it has three things Marriott and Hilton don’t: a fixed award chart, free elite status through your Mastercard, and family rooms from 5,000 points a night. If your holiday is out all day and back only to sleep, Wyndham can quietly take you around the world on very few points.
TL;DR
- 🏨 About 9,200 hotels (8,400 bookable on points), 25 brands; India has 150+ open or in the pipeline, mostly Ramada and Ramada Encore.
- 📊 Fixed prices since 15 Sep 2026: every hotel costs 5,000, 15,000, 30,000 or 45,000 points a night, per bedroom. No dynamic pricing.
- 💰 A point is worth about ₹0.60, but the 5,000-point hotels regularly give ₹1 or more.
- ⭐ Free status: Mastercard World Elite gets Diamond, World gets Platinum, most other Mastercards get Gold. We got Platinum in 2025 with our Axis Magnus for Burgundy.
- 💳 From India: Axis, HSBC, SBI and HDFC cards all convert into Wyndham; Axis Atlas at 1:2 is the sweet spot.
From a Dallas hotel to Ramadas everywhere
| Year | What happened |
|---|---|
| 1981 | Trammell Crow starts the Wyndham hotel brand in Dallas |
| 1990s | Hospitality Franchise Systems (HFS) buys up Ramada, Howard Johnson, Days Inn and Super 8; in 1997 HFS merges with CUC to form Cendant |
| 2003 | Cendant launches TripRewards, the loyalty programme for all its hotel brands |
| 2005–06 | Cendant buys the Wyndham brand and spins off Wyndham Worldwide |
| 2008 | TripRewards is renamed Wyndham Rewards |
| 2015 | Every hotel worldwide costs a flat 15,000 points a night |
| 2018 | Wyndham buys La Quinta (about 900 hotels) and Wyndham Hotels & Resorts becomes a separate listed company |
| 2025–26 | Wyndham Grand opens in Udaipur, the brand’s first in India; the award chart is redrawn on 15 Sep 2026 |
How the award chart has changed
| When | Change |
|---|---|
| May 2015 | Flat 15,000 points a night; points + cash from 3,000 points |
| Apr 2019 | Three tiers: 7,500 / 15,000 / 30,000 points, priced per bedroom; Go Fast (points + cash) from 1,500 / 3,000 / 6,000 |
| Feb 2025 | Status from a card or promotion can no longer be matched to Caesars; Caesars transfers capped at 30,000 a year |
| Nov 2025 | Vacasa holiday rentals removed (last bookings 30 Nov 2025, last stays 31 Jan 2026) |
| 15 Sep 2026 | Four tiers: 5,000 / 15,000 / 30,000 / 45,000; Go Fast from 500 / 1,500 / 3,000 / 4,500 points + cash |
The September change was mixed: 34% of hotels went up, 22% went down. About 2,040 hotels doubled from 15,000 to 30,000, and only 68 sit in the new 45,000 tier. The Points Guy cut its valuation from 0.7 to 0.55 US cents (₹0.53). Bookings made before 15 Sep keep their old price, and if a booked hotel dropped a tier, Wyndham refunds the difference automatically.
Wyndham’s brands in India and abroad
| Segment | Brands | In India (examples) |
|---|---|---|
| Luxury and upscale | Registry Collection, Wyndham Grand, Wyndham, Dolce, Alltra (all-inclusive), Vienna House, TRYP, Trademark Collection | Wyndham Grand Udaipur Fatehsagar Lake (Dec 2025), Wyndham Ahmedabad Shela |
| Midscale | Ramada, Ramada Encore, Wyndham Garden, Howard Johnson, Wingate, Baymont | Ramada Plaza Mumbai Sahar, Ramada Gangtok, Ramada Encore Ayodhya, HoJo Kolkata Airport |
| Economy | Days Inn, Super 8, Microtel, Travelodge, La Quinta | Mostly abroad (US, Europe, South-East Asia) |
| Long stays | Hawthorn Suites, WaterWalk, ECHO Suites | Hawthorn has appeared in India; check before booking |
Earning: 10 points per US$ or 1,000 points per stay, whichever is higher. That minimum is the hidden gem. A ₹3,000 Ramada night booked direct earns 1,000 points (about ₹600 of value), which is 20% back. Book through MakeMyTrip or Agoda and you get nothing.
Getting Wyndham points from Indian cards
| Card | Ratio (card : Wyndham) | Value of one card point |
|---|---|---|
| Axis Olympus | 1 : 4 | ₹2.40 |
| Axis Atlas | 1 : 2 | ₹1.20 |
| Axis Horizon | 1 : 1 | ₹0.60 |
| HSBC TravelOne, HSBC Premier | 1 : 1, usually instant | ₹0.60 |
| SBI MILES / Prime / Elite | 1 : 1, up to 21 days | ₹0.60 |
| HDFC Infinia, Diners Club Black (SmartBuy) | 1 : 1 | ₹0.60 |
| Axis Burgundy Private, Magnus for Burgundy | 5 : 4 | ₹0.48 |
| Axis Magnus, Reserve | 5 : 2 | ₹0.24 |
Values use DealUni’s ₹0.60 per Wyndham point (midpoint of ₹0.50–0.70). At a 5,000-point hotel you can get ₹1 a point, so an Atlas mile can be worth ₹2. Ratios checked on our own Axis and HDFC accounts, Oct 2026. HDFC transfers go through SmartBuy.
What 2,500 Axis Atlas miles get you: 5,000 Wyndham points, which is one night in a family room in central Kuala Lumpur (see below). Our points calculator does this maths for any card.
What a Wyndham point is really worth: live examples
Wyndham’s app shows a “Free Night” price and a “Discounted Night with Points + Cash” price for the same room. The gap tells you exactly what the extra points are buying. Cash saved ÷ extra points = value per point.
| Hotel (Jan 2027) | Free night | Points + cash | ₹ per extra point |
|---|---|---|---|
| Ramada Encore Chinatown Kuala Lumpur, family triple room | 5,000 | 1,000 + MYR 174.91 | ₹1.03 |
| Dolce by Wyndham Hanoi Golden Lake | 30,000 | 3,000 + VND 6,885,000 | ₹0.95 |
| Wyndham Downtown Dubai, one-bedroom suite with balcony | 30,000 | 3,000 + AED 850 | ₹0.83 |
| TRYP by Wyndham Istanbul Beyoglu | 30,000 | 6,000 + €72.10 | ₹0.32 |
| Vienna House Easy Amsterdam Airport | 30,000 | 6,000 + €62.30 | ₹0.28 |
| Amedia Amsterdam Airport | 30,000 | 6,000 + €56.70 | ₹0.26 |
| Ramada by Wyndham Istanbul Old City | 30,000 | 6,000 + €49 | ₹0.22 |
Example: Dubai’s free night costs 27,000 more points than points + cash and saves AED 850 (₹22,300), so each extra point is worth ₹0.83. European list prices are “from” rates.
The lesson is simple. Because prices are fixed, cheap hotels stuck in an expensive tier are terrible value. At the Istanbul Ramada, a free night costs 30,000 points (₹18,000 of value), while points + cash costs 6,000 points plus €49, about ₹8,900 in all. Use full points only when you get more than ₹0.60 a point; otherwise use points + cash or pay cash.
Points + cash has a second trick. In Hanoi, moving from 3,000 to 4,000 points cut the cash part by VND 405,000 (₹1,507), so those 1,000 points were worth ₹1.51 each. In Dubai the same step saved AED 50 (₹1,312). When the app offers several points + cash options, the one with more points is often the best deal.

Why 3-star and 4-star hotels make sense for families
Be honest about how you travel. On a city holiday with kids you leave at 9 am, come back at 9 pm, shower and sleep. You don’t use the spa, the lounge or the infinity pool. What you need is a clean room near the metro, enough beds for three or four, and breakfast if possible.
- Per-bedroom pricing: Wyndham charges per bedroom, not per person. A family triple or a one-bedroom suite costs the same points as a standard room at that hotel.
- Fewer rooms: with Marriott or Hilton a family of four often needs two rooms or a paid suite. On Wyndham, one family room or suite is often enough.
- Location over luxury: a Ramada Encore in Chinatown puts you within walking distance of the sights. A five-star resort 40 minutes out costs you more in taxis than you save.
- Save the big points for where they matter: use Wyndham for the city nights and keep Marriott, Hyatt or Accor points for the one resort where you’ll actually use the pool.
A real plan: three nights in that KL family room cost 15,000 points, which is 7,500 Axis Atlas miles. Points + cash instead would cost 3,000 points plus MYR 525 (₹12,370). That’s the sort of trip Wyndham was built for.
Status: free with your Mastercard
| Tier | Nights a year | Point bonus | Key benefits |
|---|---|---|---|
| Blue | Join | – | Member rates, free Wi-Fi, 1,000-point minimum per stay |
| Gold | 5 | +10% | Preferred room, late checkout, early check-in (when available) |
| Platinum | 15 | +15% | Car rental upgrade with Enterprise, National and Alamo (US and Canada only); Caesars match if earned by stays |
| Diamond | 40 | +20% | Suite upgrade at check-in when available, welcome amenity, gift Gold to a friend once a year |
The benefits are lighter than Marriott’s or Hilton’s, with no promised breakfast or lounge. But you don’t need 40 nights, because Mastercard hands out Wyndham status for free in Asia-Pacific:
| Your Mastercard | Wyndham status for 12 months |
|---|---|
| World Elite | Diamond |
| World, World Select | Platinum |
| Platinum, Titanium, Gold, Standard | Gold |
- Join Wyndham Rewards first (free) at wyndhamhotels.com.
- Get your offer code from redemption.mastercard.com using your Mastercard.
- Email the code and your Wyndham member number to Wyndham’s Asia-Pacific service desk, as the offer page explains.
- Wait up to four weeks for the upgrade. One upgrade per cardholder.
We did exactly this in May 2025 with our Axis Magnus for Burgundy, which runs on Mastercard, and got Platinum. It cost nothing and took one email. Indian issuers listed the offer until 31 Dec 2025. Mastercard has extended it for 2026 in some Asia-Pacific markets, but we haven’t confirmed India yet, so try redemption.mastercard.com with your card before you count on it.
Caesars note: Wyndham Platinum or Diamond can be matched to Caesars Rewards (useful for Las Vegas), but only if you earned it with real nights. Status from a card or a status match can’t be matched any more.
Status match (one-time): members of Marriott, Hilton, Hyatt, IHG, Radisson, Choice, Best Western or Omni can match to the equivalent Wyndham tier for 90 days. Stay 1, 4 or 10 nights in that time to keep Gold, Platinum or Diamond until the end of the following year. Visa holders: we found no Visa route to Wyndham status (Visa Infinite in India gives GHA Titanium instead), so use this match.
Our own Wyndham story
We’re honest: Wyndham isn’t where most of our nights go. We picked up Platinum for free through Mastercard in 2025, and our next Wyndham-family stay is the Howard Johnson at Kolkata Airport in January 2027. That one we booked for cash, ₹11,314 for two nights with breakfast, paid almost entirely with discounted gift cards through MakeMyTrip. For a cheap airport stop, cash and gift cards beat points. The downside: an online-agency booking earns no Wyndham points and gets no status benefits.
The live examples above come from our searches for a January 2027 trip. Kuala Lumpur at 5,000 points is the clear winner, and the Dubai suite is good value for a family. Istanbul and Amsterdam are better on points + cash.
Five rules to see the world on fewer points
- Hunt the 5,000-point tier. Ramada Encore, Days Inn and Super 8 hotels in South-East Asia, Turkey and Eastern Europe often sit here. That’s ₹3,000 of points for a room worth ₹4,000 or more.
- Always compare free night with points + cash. Divide the cash saved by the extra points. Above ₹0.60, use points; below, use points + cash.
- Book suites and family rooms. Pricing is per bedroom, so the bigger room often costs no extra.
- Book direct for cheap cash stays. The 1,000-point minimum turns a ₹3,000 room into 20% back. Register for the current 4X points offer too (stays until 19 Jan 2027).
- Keep points alive. Points expire after four years, and you lose everything after 18 months with no activity. A small transfer or one stay resets the clock.
Don’t: convert Wyndham points to airlines. It’s 5:1 with a 6,000-point minimum (KrisFlyer, Turkish, United, Aeroplan and others; no Indian airline), so you lose about half the value. See our hotel-to-airline guide. And buy points only to top up for a specific booking; the current sale (50–80% bonus until 21 Oct 2026; 90% is only for US cardholders and Insider members) is covered in this Quick Hits post.
What to do
| You are… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Any Mastercard holder | Join Wyndham Rewards and claim free Gold, Platinum or Diamond today |
| An Axis Atlas or Olympus holder | Transfer for 5,000- and 15,000-point hotels; that’s ₹2 or more per Atlas mile |
| A family of three or four on a city trip | Search Wyndham family rooms and suites first, then save premium points for one resort |
| Holding HSBC or SBI points | Wyndham at 1:1 is a fair use if a 5,000-point hotel fits your trip |
| Eyeing a 30,000-point hotel in Europe | Check points + cash; full points are often under ₹0.30 each |
FAQ
Does an Indian Mastercard really qualify? It did in 2025; we used one. For 2026, check redemption.mastercard.com with your card. Your tier depends on the card variant, which is printed on the card or shown in your bank app.
Is Wyndham status useful in India? Mildly. Late checkout and a better room help, but Indian Ramadas are cheap enough that you’ll usually pay cash. The status is most useful abroad.
Did the September 2026 change kill Wyndham? No. Many mid-range hotels doubled to 30,000, which hurts, but the new 5,000 tier is better than the old 7,500 one. The trick now is to pick hotels carefully.
Can I book Wyndham awards through MakeMyTrip? No. Points bookings are made on wyndhamhotels.com or the Wyndham app.
Can I cancel an award night? Yes, free until the hotel’s deadline or 4pm the day before arrival, whichever is earlier, and the points come back automatically. Cancel later and you lose them.
DealUni take
Wyndham is the underdog that wins on maths, not glamour. Free status with your Mastercard, a fixed chart you can plan around, and family rooms for 5,000 points make it the best “sleep and go” programme for Indian families. Use it for city nights, use points + cash when the free night is poor value, and save your Marriott, Hyatt and Accor points for the resort that deserves them. Chhote hotel, bade safar: Wyndham ke 5,000 points mein poori family ki raat.
