India's Fast Track Immigration Trusted Traveller Programme (FTI-TTP) e-gates

FTI-TTP India: Fast Track Immigration, Airports, How to Apply

Updated as of 21 Oct 2026. Rules, airports and documents from the Ministry of Home Affairs’ FTI-TTP portal, checked 21 Oct 2026. Enrolment numbers from the government’s September 2025 announcement.

You land at 2 a.m. after a 9-hour flight, and the immigration hall at Delhi or Mumbai is a sea of heads. Meanwhile a handful of people walk to a row of glass gates, scan their passport, look at a camera and are out in under a minute. That’s FTI-TTP, India’s Fast Track Immigration – Trusted Traveller Programme. It’s free, it lasts up to 10 years, and most frequent flyers still haven’t signed up. Here’s everything you need to know.

TL;DR

  • What: biometric e-gates that skip the immigration counter, on both departure and arrival.
  • Who: Indian citizens with a non-ECR passport, and OCI cardholders. Age 7 and up.
  • Cost: free. Valid for 10 years or until your passport expires, whichever is earlier.
  • Where: 13 airports, including Delhi, Mumbai, Chennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kolkata and Kochi.
  • Catch: you must give fingerprints and a photo once, at an international airport or an FRRO office, and approval can take up to a month. Apply well before your next trip.

The 13 airports with e-gates

RegionAirports
NorthDelhi, Lucknow, Amritsar
WestMumbai, Ahmedabad
SouthChennai, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Kochi, Thiruvananthapuram, Kozhikode (Calicut), Tiruchirappalli (Trichy)
EastKolkata
E-gates work on both departures and arrivals. Delhi started first in 2024; five airports (Lucknow, Thiruvananthapuram, Trichy, Kozhikode, Amritsar) were added in September 2025. The government has said Navi Mumbai and Jewar (Noida) will join when they open.

Flying from Goa, Pune, Jaipur or another airport? You can still enrol (more on that below) and use the gates whenever you fly through one of these 13.

What you need before you start

  • Photo: taken in the last 6 months, plain white background, face (with ears) filling about three-quarters of the frame. JPEG, 10 KB to 1 MB.
  • Passport scans: the photo page and the last page (family details), under 1 MB.
  • OCI cardholders: the first and last pages of the OCI card as separate PDFs, 10 KB to 1 MB each.
  • Your own mobile number and email. One number or email can be used for up to 6 registrations, so one parent’s details can cover a family.

How to apply, step by step

  1. Go to the official portal, ftittp.mha.gov.in, and verify your mobile (OTP) and email.
  2. Fill in the form and upload your photo and scans. You get an acknowledgement by SMS and email.
  3. Wait for the Bureau of Immigration’s document check.
  4. Give your biometrics (fingerprints and a face photo) at a designated international airport when you next fly abroad, or at any FRRO office during working hours.
  5. Your registration is processed only after biometrics. Allow up to a month in total.

Timing tip: the easiest way to do step 4 is on your next international departure. Get to the airport a little earlier, give your biometrics at the FTI-TTP desk, and you’ll be using the gates on your return or your next trip.

Using the e-gate

  1. Scan your boarding pass and passport at the gate.
  2. Look at the camera; give your fingerprint if the gate asks.
  3. The gate opens. No queue, no officer, no questions.

Two things to know:

  • No passport stamp. Your trip is recorded electronically. If a visa application or employer needs proof of travel, log in to the FTI-TTP portal to see your travel details, or request a “Travel Data History” from the FRRO portal.
  • DigiYatra is different. DigiYatra is for domestic security and boarding; registering there doesn’t let you use immigration e-gates. You need FTI-TTP separately.

We use it: what the portal shows

Our family is enrolled: one of us since July 2025, another since June 2026. Coming home from Bangkok on Thai’s TG-337 to Chennai in June 2026, we both walked through the e-gates, two minutes apart, just before midnight. The portal logs every crossing.

Our eGate log on the FTI-TTP portal: two arrivals in Chennai on TG-337, cleared two minutes apart. IDs and passport numbers blurred.

Once you’re logged in, the dashboard is where you do everything after registration:

  • Application Status: each family member’s file number and whether it’s granted.
  • QR Code for Biometric Enrollment: the code to show at the airport or FRRO desk when you give fingerprints.
  • eGate usages: every crossing with flight number, airports and clearance time, downloadable as a PDF. Handy when a visa form asks for travel history and your passport has no stamp.
  • Renewal of TTP / Passport Update and Update Biometric or Address: for a new passport or changed details, without re-registering.

Renewed your passport?

Your FTI-TTP membership ends when the passport you enrolled with expires. When you get a new passport, or if yours is lost, stolen or damaged, log in to the portal and update the passport details. You don’t have to give biometrics again.

Is it worth it?

You are…What to do
Flying abroad even once a year from a metro✅ Apply now. It’s free and lasts up to 10 years
A family with kids aged 7+✅ Register everyone; one parent’s mobile and email can cover up to 6 people
An OCI cardholder visiting India often✅ Yes, OCI holders are eligible
Travelling in the next two weeks⚠️ Apply anyway, but don’t count on it for this trip
Flying with a child under 7⚠️ The child can’t use the gate, so the family will need the regular counter
Holding an ECR passport❌ Not eligible

About 3 lakh travellers had registered by September 2025, a tiny slice of India’s international flyers, so the gates are usually empty while the counters aren’t. Pair it with a lounge from your card and the airport part of an international trip gets a lot calmer. Not sure which card gets you in? See our Trip Spend Planner.

Watch out for agents

FTI-TTP is free, and the only place to apply is ftittp.mha.gov.in. Anyone charging a fee for “express” or “guaranteed” registration is unauthorised. Never share your OTP with them.

FAQ

Does it work for domestic flights? No. It’s only for immigration on international departures and arrivals.

Can I use it at any of the 13 airports once I’m enrolled? Yes, at both departure and arrival, wherever the gates are installed.

Where do I ask for help? The portal’s support email is india.ftittp-boi@mha.gov.in.
