Turkish Miles&Smiles: Europe for 5,000 Miles (Book by 9 Oct)
Updated as of 6 Oct 2026. Book by 9 Oct 2026; travel by 30 Apr 2027. Rupee figures use the US$1 = ₹96.34 and TRY 1 = ₹1.96 rates from our FX sheet (5 Oct 2026).
🔄 What changed (6 Oct 2026): we priced a real award (taxes are about ₹5,200, not our earlier estimate), and corrected the Axis transfer time to up to 10 working days.
Turkish Airlines has put Istanbul–Europe economy awards on sale at 5,000 Miles&Smiles miles one way. That’s half the usual promo price, or a third of the regular one. It’s a short window, and it only helps if you’re already going to Turkey.
The offer
| Price | 5,000 miles one way, 10,000 round trip, economy, plus taxes |
| Routes | Türkiye to and from Europe 1 and Europe 2: about 40 countries including the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Greece and Georgia (not Russia or Belarus) |
| Usual price | Europe 1: 10,000 promo or 15,000 regular. Europe 2: 15,000 or 20,000 |
| Book by | 9 Oct 2026 |
| Travel | 5 Oct 2026 – 30 Apr 2027. Blackouts: 17–21 and 24–28 Dec; 2–10, 21–24 and 28–31 Jan; 4–7 Feb; 5–15 Mar; 25 Mar–5 Apr |
| Catch | Turkish-operated flights only. Changes only on the same route. No India routes, so the leg to Istanbul is a separate ticket |

What it costs from Indian cards
| Card | Ratio | Points for 5,000 miles | Speed |
|---|---|---|---|
| Axis Olympus | 1:4 | 1,250 | Up to 10 working days |
| Axis Atlas | 1:2 | 2,500 EDGE Miles | Up to 10 working days |
| Axis Magnus for Burgundy, Burgundy Private | 5:4 | 6,250 | Up to 10 working days |
| HSBC TravelOne, Premier | 2:1 | 10,000 | Up to 3 working days |
| HDFC Infinia, Diners Club Black | 2:1 | 10,000 | Via SmartBuy |
| Axis Magnus, Reserve | 5:2 | 12,500 | Up to 10 working days |
The maths: we priced Istanbul to Budapest on 14 Jan 2027: 5,000 miles + TRY 2,642.82 (about ₹5,200) in taxes. A one-way cash fare on these routes is around ₹13,700 (what Istanbul–London Heathrow cost for November), so 5,000 miles saves you about ₹8,500, or ₹1.7 a mile. London will carry more tax than Budapest because of UK air passenger duty, so check your own route. That’s a great use of 2,500 Atlas EDGE Miles or 1,250 Olympus points. It’s a poor use of 10,000 Infinia points, which are worth about ₹10,000 on SmartBuy.

Who should do what
| You are… | What to do |
|---|---|
| Going to Turkey this winter with Axis Atlas or Olympus points | Find the seat on turkishairlines.com first, then transfer today. It’s the best deal here, but Axis can take up to 10 working days, so you could miss the 9 Oct deadline. If you already hold Miles&Smiles miles, book now. |
| Holding only HDFC or HSBC points | Skip unless the cash fare is high on your date. Your points do better elsewhere. |
| Not planning a Turkey–Europe trip | Skip. Don’t build a trip around a 5,000-mile leg. |
| Flying India–Turkey | That’s 20,000 (economy) or 35,000 (business) promo miles one way on Turkish’s own chart, not part of this sale. |
Watch out: promo seats are limited, and Turkish charges US$70 (about ₹6,700) per person to change an award, or deducts the same US$70 if you cancel for a refund; you get a full refund only within 24 hours of booking. When paying, choose “Pay taxes with money”: paying the taxes with miles cost 15,571 extra miles on our Budapest search, more than three times the fare itself. Award tickets don’t get Turkish’s free Istanbul stopover hotel. Within Turkey there’s no 5,000 deal; the standing domestic promo award is 4,500 miles.
Thinking of buying miles instead? Turkish’s buy-miles bonus runs till 15 Oct, but our take on it explains why buying rarely beats transferring. See every transfer option for your card in the Rewards Toolkit.
DealUni take: a genuine bargain for Atlas and Olympus holders with a Turkey trip already in the diary. Everyone else can let it pass. Sasta hai, par seat pehle dhoondo (it’s cheap, but find the seat first).
