Swiggy HDFC Card Upgrade: Ornge or BLCK, Which to Pick

Updated as of 15 Oct 2026. From HDFC Bank’s Swiggy card upgrade FAQ (30 Sep 2026) and the Swiggy HDFC Bank card page. Fees are before 18% GST.

If you hold the Swiggy HDFC Bank Credit Card, it’s going away. HDFC is moving every cardholder to one of two new cards, Swiggy Ornge or Swiggy BLCK, in phases until March 2027. You get a new card number, and the old card can’t be kept. If you don’t choose, HDFC puts you on Ornge.

The choice is simple once you know how much you spend on Swiggy each month. Here’s the maths.

The headline: Ornge halves your Swiggy cashback, from 10% to 5%. BLCK keeps the 10% and gives each rate its own cap, so you can earn more than before, but it costs ₹1,180 a year with GST.

Which one to pick

BLCK pays 5% more than Ornge on Swiggy. To cover ₹1,180 a year, you need about ₹2,000 a month on Swiggy (₹23,600 a year). Below that, Ornge wins, and it’s free.

Example: ₹4,000 a month on Swiggy and ₹10,000 on other online shopping.

  • Ornge: 5% of ₹14,000 = ₹700 a month, ₹8,400 a year, no fee.
  • BLCK: 10% of ₹4,000 + 5% of ₹10,000 = ₹900 a month, ₹10,800 a year, minus ₹1,180 fee = ₹9,620.

BLCK comes out about ₹1,200 ahead. It also wins if your Swiggy and online spends together go past ₹30,000 a month, because Ornge puts both under the same ₹1,500 cap.

What to do when HDFC contacts you

  1. Watch SMS, email and your spam folder for HDFC’s message asking you to choose a variant. If you don’t reply, you’ll be moved to Ornge, with at least 30 days’ notice.
  2. When the new card arrives (7–10 working days), set up again every autopay, e-mandate and standing instruction. They don’t move across.
  3. Set your card controls again: limits, online use and international use.
  4. Your old card stops at the earliest of: your first purchase on the new card, 60 days after the new card is issued, or its expiry date.
  5. Raise any cashback query on the old card within a month of getting the new one.
  6. Your annual fee date resets to the upgrade date.

DealUni take: this is a cut for light Swiggy users and a small upgrade for heavy ones. Spend under ₹2,000 a month on Swiggy? Let it go to Ornge. Spend more? Choose BLCK.
